Exploring The Fifth Domain
.

Coaching with identity in mind has become a front burner issue, not only for professional coaches, but also for those individuals and organizations seeking coach training. In fact, this year the International Coach Federation (ICF) added the word “identity” to its list of Core Competencies. In so doing, the importance of a coach’s ability to be sensitive to, understand and express respect for “the fullness” of our clients has been elevated.

The Fifth Domain Coaching model seeks to help coaches expand awareness and deepen understanding about what we see as a previously under-explored coaching lens. Most coach training programs invite coaches to query how a client experiences their situation using four lenses: Cognitive, Emotional, Somatic and Spiritual. We believe that exploring client “identity” — who the client knows themselves to be and how the client is seen in comparison to others — represents a fifth lens or domain accessible to coaches looking for an authentic connection with their clients.

The Creative Process in Reinventing the Self
Coaching and creativity work hand-in-hand to help reinvent the self as we go through change and growth.

Coaching is the process in which individuals embark on the journey of reinventing themselves for greater growth. True creativity happens when we have the right processes, mindsets, environment and methods to bring it to life. Reinvention requires creativity.

What is design thinking as a process, mindset, method, and how does it relate to creativity? Where does coaching fit in and how can Design Thinking be applied to enhance coaching for growth? Just some of the questions we will be exploring together in our session on “Coaching & Design Thinking: The Synergy.”

If you have ideas but don’t act on them, you are imaginative but not creative. Creativity takes courage especially in times of turbulence, and we discuss how applying Design Thinking in coaching can help individuals overcome the obstacles that block fruition and create results. We live in a world of interlocking systems where many of the problems we face are dynamic, complex and inherently human. Through Design Thinking and Coaching we identify ways to expand possibilities with a human centered approach.
